Disaster assistance set aside for Dubbo, Wollongong hailstorm victims

Barry McKinnon was sitting quietly on his front porch when hailstones bashed through his patio roof, collapsed his carport, and tore a steel beam out of his brick wall.

He said he could not believe the force of the storm.

"When the hail got on the roof it just sank it — there was so much weight," Mr McKinnon said.

The retired telecommunications worker was among Dubbo residents who have felt the financial impact of February's hail storms.

This week storm victims in the Dubbo and Wollongong areas were declared eligible for government disaster relief.
